a lonely boy would sweep.
Seen workin' at the docks
each night til nine o'clock.

The story, so it goes is:
She never seemed to notice.

until he fin’lly asked

I think we’re better

Or I’m mistaken;
you’re already taken,

She’d seen him ‘round before,
but now saw somethin’ more.
She knew there was a chance
for a true romance.

But he said with sorrow:
“I’m shipping out tomorrow.
Just one night with you
would show my love is true.”

Maybe you’ll stay awhile?

I think we’re better

Finally, there’s that smile.

Or I’m mistaken;

And then I see,
eventually,
our own family,
