Smell of Roses
Walking down the streets out in the rain
Cardboard homes and alleyways we passed
Humdrum life and city strife, suburban ants they live
Standing back, I hope I've seen the last of this
Don't think and you won't see
Turn away from painful cries
Truthfully, you come up clean
The smell of roses screens the lies
The look in your eyes, cannot hide the shame
Follow rules, is how you live your life
Deceit and lies, the final guise, the greedy hands the take
And send those at the bottom, down to hang again
Another night out in the cold I sleep
People drop their eyes as the go past afraid
