Atop the Highest Mountain a Man Stands Lonely

I stand alone
On nature's throne
Companions gone
I have outgrown

No need for others/I am at the peak
Of human existence/Above all the meek
Companions I once had/Above all the rest
Disciples I don't need/Their flaws to infest
My mind is its clearest/In solitude
Mine eagle and serpent/I am of their brood
In nature I thrive/Outside of the herd
A bear amongst bears/A bird amongst birds

I stand alone
On nature's throne
Companions gone
I have outgrown

Echoes I hear/Within myself
Of that old saint/From whom I withdrew
Wisdom or folly/In solitude
I am all alone/Is this path true?
Doubting arises/Within my mind
The choice to abandon/All humankind
Can I find answers/Wholly within?
Other perspectives
Lost

I stand alone
On nature's throne
Companions gone
I have outgrown

Atop this great mountain I stand all alone
Awaiting the lightning that will guide me on
Higher than man I believe I've become
But is this the answer? Is this my home?

I stand alone
On nature's throne
Companions gone
I have outgrown

I've killed all my pity, I've killed all my shame
Abandoned the values from whence virtue came
Virtue they say, but it was all a lie
But are my own values an excess of pride?

Atop the highest mountain
I stand alone
I have forged new values
Far from my home
But in my own ego
Have I lost my way?
Clung to new absolutes
When the truth is more grey?
