The Concrete and the Walls

As I walked out through the crowd, words stuck in mind
Instant separation from the people passing by
Barely just connected to the concrete and the walls
Always trying to squeeze in through an opening that's too small

And I think of all the days I waited close to home
Nothing came in search of me until I let it go

Something in me waits to be erased out of my mind
While other long-forgotten things are coming back to life
But walking there along the streets, I can hear them call
I don't want to talk to them, I've waited here too long

And when I hear the voices calling out there from below
Their words go running through my head with nowhere else to go

As the sun began to fall
I wrote my name there on the wall

Hesitation, simulation, crowded in the streets
I can't see them, I don't need them, they are yours to keep
Daylight came into the room, now I could see the bones
Still I never really knew if I had gotten close
