Mirror Image I

(Here we go)

Going out to the bar again
Got the feelin that I’m not gonna go with a friend of mine
Everybody’s busy with their other plans (Just another bad time)

Walked in front of my closet mirror
Nice blue jacket with the black slacks on to match
I smile to myself
Just gotta go out and have some fun

But when I moved towards the door
My feet were cemented to the floor
My mirror image kept on walking
Giving me a wave as he went

(Oh no)

And I watched
As he took the keys off the kitchen counter without me
Driving off silently

I’m looking down at my lungs and they're screaming out
But my body fails to make a sound
My hopes and dreams are on the other side
Blinding light hidden behind my eyes
Now there’s a mirror image
Impersonating me

I can see it all happening from the comfort of my home
This doppel man is chatting up the world and getting phones

I’m seeing him be who I’ve always wanted to see in me
The charm, the walk, the talk, anything he does I envy

And when I look and see his smile
I see that he went the extra mile
My mirror image in my visage kept his cool as he went

And I watched
As he dance around with the lady of my dreams
Telling jokes, sharing memes
I can't believe this is happening

I’m looking down at my lungs and they're screaming out
But my reflection failed to react somehow
Candle Light hidden behind my eyes
There’s a mirror image
Showing who I could never be

I don't trust the figure, I don't trust that face
To remind me of the future I hold in his place
Since the gender roles I see
Are shooting daggers back at me

I can cook the meals
I can make the drinks
I can care for the kids
And I’ll fix the sink
I can go to work
I can land the jobs
I'll support us with what I got

And I am all of the above
Although I know it’s not enough
To just know what you want to be
Gotta act as the person in the mirror image
That you see

I left my doppelganger in the past
Shining on the wall
He brought to life the parts of me that
I was never proud to see
