As we rode along the river

He was the fairest thing to grace those steady banks
In ages come and lost forever
There was a mystery about him
Like a thousand secrets I would never know
So we spoke
And he, laughing, took my hand
Golden-tongued
His words were fickle jewels along the sand

How he was sad he was alone
And how someday he hoped to find a girl like me
