The Stranger
I was quick to trust her
I met her yesterday
Blonde hair and green-blue eyes
She had not much to say
She listened close to my story
As she looked me in the eye
And in that moment
I swear I saw
Our lives flash ‘fore my eyes
She is wise beyond her years
She is wise beyond her age
She can look at me
Hear my story
And write the words on the next page
She knows me like the back of her hand
At only eighteen
And I guess I just don’t quite understand
How a stranger understands me
She was the most interesting
Person that I knew
You could tell, just by lookin’ at her
That her heart and soul were true
She was there for me
Always stood by my side
But I was stupid and let her go
And for her, my heart cries
She is wise beyond her years
She is wise beyond her age
She can look at me
Hear my story
And write the words on the next page
She knows me like the back of her hand
At only eighteen
And I guess I just don’t quite understand
How a stranger understands me
If I could turn back the clock
And do it all again
Just to have her in my arms once more
To hold her hand
She tried her best to be the one
Who'd make me walk the line
Damn, I wish I knew back then
She was the love of my life
She is wise beyond her years
She is wise beyond her age
She can look at me
Hear my story
And write the words on the next page
She knows me like the back of her hand
At only eighteen
And I guess I just don’t quite understand
How a stranger understands me
