Lost in the Crowd
You can't be heard if you're speaking in a simple human tone,
You can't be seen unless you're screaming and jumping up and down,
Show the flesh, make a scene, holler loud, loud, loud,
Otherwise you are lost in the crowd.
You can't be seen if your face is a modest human face,
Unless you're featured like a gargoyle you're sunk without a trace,
Merry clothes from the rag-bag, shouting loud, loud, loud,
Otherwise you are lost in the crowd.
You don't know who you are if you aren't wild and strange,
As if seen in a mirror that's been broken in a rage.
If the things you say have reason, their meaning straight and clear,
No one, but no one will hear.
Don't get lost little sister, little brother scream and shout,
Otherwise you'll be forgotten and trampled under foot.
Let them see us and hear us, speaking out sure and proud,
We're not lost in the crowd, we're the crowd.
