I Don't Mind

Manuela Torres-Orejuela

I don't read enough to call myself a writer
My life's a pattern I just wake up to repeat
If I said I sing, I'd also be a liar
I just watch YouTube to put myself to sleep
I went to college- even graduated
When or how I did- I try to block that out
Every unpaid internship made me so jaded
So I moved back home and tried to play it proud
I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't know what it takes to wear designer
All the clothes I own are secondhand or cheap
There's a thing called style and I tend to consign her
To the fashion sense I buried in a heap
I don't think I've worked out since I was a minor
From my dad I got a tooth that's very sweet
I don't like the mental space that food requires
My health decisions buckled up in the backseat
I don't mind
I don't mind
My full-time job won't get me anywhere- I know that
It pays for materialistic holes I need to fill
And I guess it's nice to start a little savings
Every paycheck is an evanescent thrill
And no, I don't mind where I'm at- it's ok
One day, I'll wake up and everything will change
Can't control what happens to us in the long run
But I can take these moments with a little grain
I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind
