Prayer for the People

[Verse: M'reld Green]
I see gentrification all over the nation
My people are being displaced
Their history is being erased
And being replaced
With Starbucks
Our bucks no longer can afford address
Or access
So we move
And soon
Come grocery stores that sell organic
More police to patrol
Half a million dollar homes
Now you call on the phone
They actually come
When before we would bleed out
No money for a lawyer so my brothers plead out
Even though they're innocent
In the ghetto
Money come in increments
1st
3rd
5th
15th
But we be protected and covered
By our praying grandmothers
Who are raising their kid’s kids
Because their kid never grew up
Still holding on to the bottle
Or a pipe
But granny get on her knees every night
To pray
To keep the demons away
Thanking God for another day 'cause trouble don't last always
The clouds will move
Our people will continue to progress
You must trust the process
Stay the course like a golfer refusing to leave
When you wanna give up
Remember the blood on the leaves
Strange fruit on the leaves
We still achieve
Black hands thread the needle
We still regal
This is a prayer for my people
