Sitting all alone, talking on the phone
Everyone I know is out of work
And we're trying to survive, yeah, keep ourselves alive
But without money today you're treated like dirt
Wasting all my time, standing in a line
That's out in the streets every day at one
And by the time you get up to the desk
They say, "I'm sorry kid, you're a no good bum"
Unemployment, give me some dough
My bills are much more than you think
Cause I've been waiting for eight months or so
And I think that I've been driven to drink
Everybody's starving in America
I used to see some beautiful days
Now bodies standing in a line
The alternative is crime
Cause these are the good old unemployment days
Looking for a job or a store to rob
Just to get some food in your gut
And you can tell me it's amazing
But I know a girl is crazy
If she's got to work all night in the slums
