Tango in Macao
You said there'd be shutters
And rusty ceiling fans
And broken hearted gangsters
With roses in their hands.
There would be Tango in Macao,
That's what you told me,
And I believed in you somehow,
Believed all your baloney.
We've come half way round the world
I guess I'm stuck with you for now.
I'm not saying that you lied
But it was definitely implied,
There would be Tango in Macao!
I don't know how it happened
You got past my defenses
And brought me all this way
On distinctly false pretenses
I asked our concierge, he said,
“There's nothing like that now,
And neither has there been
Since before the days of Chairman Mao.”
You'd be a man true to your vow,
At least that's what I thought.
You said we'd Tango in Macao,
But we've done nothing of the sort!
But we've still an evening left
To salvage this somehow.
We've only one last chance
To find some Tango in Macao.
Perhaps there'll be a club
Down one of these dark alleys
Where they tango really close
Like they do in Buenos Aires.
Or down by the harbour,
Along the cobble stones,
We'd dance by the lamplight
To a windup gramophone.
Then there would be Tango in Macao
Just the way you told me
Oh, yes, we could Tango in Macao
All you have to do… is hold me.
You said there'd be shutters
And rusty ceiling fans
And broken hearted gangsters
With roses in their hands.
There would be Tango in Macao,
That's what you told me,
And I believed in you somehow,
Believed all your baloney.
We've come half way round the world
I guess I'm stuck with you for now.
I'm not saying that you lied
But it was definitely implied,
There would be Tango in Macao!
