US Infantry Blues

Daniel Chenworth

Well, I got up one morning
Started towards the door
Started thinking about life
Before I realized that mine is such a bore
When you've got no money
Well, you've got nowhere to go
So, I joined the United States Army
To ensure excitement and a plenty of dough!
Well, I went to the station
And I boarded the train
By the time that I got off
Would you guess that it had started to rain
Walked through the muddy plaza
'Til I found my dear old Uncle Sam
I asked, "What could I do to please ya?"
He said, "Sonny boy, you can serve me in the mountains, deserts, and plains of Afghanistan!"
Well, he took me to the clinic
Made sure I was of good care
By the time I was certified
Well, he took me through the air
By the time we grounded
We found that the party already started
Many of the young boys were crying
But the rest of us were cold, wet, naked, and oh so broken hearted!
Well, he took me to the desert
And he told me to kill some men
Of course, now I'm feeling so damn guilty
Can't even think to say, "Amen."
For we know that it's a sin to kill
But I keep on killing, killing, killing, killing, killing, killing, killing, killing still!
So I'm praying to my dear lord, Jesus, Moses, Elijah,
"Can you get me out of this god-forsaken hell!?"
Alright, yeah!
Ha!
Well now, children gather 'round me
I've a moral left to tell
One you might have figured already
But it's one I know too well
When you're going through life, yeah
Rely on yourself, oh no, don't lean on the man!
Yeah, I'm talking about that big man, oh man
damn that lying and deceiving, tall ass, Uncle Sam!
Ha!
Yeah!
