Wildness
I feel every pace and turn
Crawling beneath the surface of your skin
Erupting in tiny jagged twitches
A vein throbs above contracting pupils
Muscles flex and relent
Yet never relax
Awaiting in you, thickening through years
One day, I know, you will burst forth and sprint away
Into the flickering flame of evening
Away into the dark forest that scratches beyond our blinded windows
And I will curl up
Wrap myself in your shed skin
And marvel at its length, its strength, its tenderness
All but it held you back
Your wildness denied
