What I Didn’t See in the Headlines

There’s a boy lying on the ground, they told him don’t resist
There’s a gash upon his head; they couldn’t only use their fists
And the sunlight is reflected by the blood on the cement
For the crime of walking somewhere that he had always went

This story is not unique, oh no, it isn’t rare
And no one seems to care

She was just seventeen in a body not her own
Her desire to become whole saw her kicked out of hеr home
And the prospect now before her brought on terror and despair
And they found her under the bridge, hanging freely in the air

They’d been married 15 years, and lived in their hometown for 10
They had crossed no lines and everybody called them their friends
No proof that they belonged there mattered to the customs goons
When they opened fire from across the street and killed the two

They are four in one apartment, they can barely make ends meet
Each one is giving up their life for 80 hours a week
They’re all indebted in six figures to banks and the state
